About This Site

So what is this crazy site anyway? Well it all started one night when I was playing guitar & looking at tabs on the internet while my girlfriend was trying to find a room to rent on Craigslist. She was sending me links to different places she was interested in & after I checked those out I took the opportunity to click over to my favorite part of the site, the Missed Connections ads. We were sending back & forth links to some particularly good ones that we found & after awhile she suggested that I try do a song about them! (I had been continuing to just noodle around with some basic arpeggios & Roadrunner/Sister Ray chord progressions while all this was going on). So I gave it a shot & it actually worked out surprisingly well (considering that I am usually not the most improvisationally adept songwriter… =) She wanted me to try recording some of them right then, but my recording setup has always been pretty ghetto & I was feeling a bit too lazy to dig out my cheap-o Radio Shack mic mixer & the various cables that go with it that night. But anyway, it did seem like a pretty sweet idea so I filed it away under things to attempt when I was more adequately caffeinated…

Finally (a few weeks later) I was still thinking about the it and I got around to setting up the little built-in mic on my webcam to record into Tracktion. There happened to be some pretty great Missed Connections posts up that night & the next day I made a post I made on my blog in which I included a couple of half-finished songs I had recorded. The post reads:

It’s a commonly accepted fact among people who are myself that Craigslist’s “Missed Connections” section is home to some of the most incredible writing on the whole wide web. In light of this, I’ve begun a series of improvisational musical sketches based on some of the more arresting posts I’ve seen on there recently…

My blog has a pretty consistent readership of at least 2 or 3 people & one of those people is my old friend & roommate Jon. After listening to my songs he eventually sent me a random email with a song that he and this guy Trevor that we know had written, based on the same formula. They also introduced their friend David to the idea & he started making some Missed Connections music as well. After hearing all their awesome work I decided to put together a site where we could all share our recordings & hopefully encourage other people to take part in the fun as well! I decided to call it “Never Said Nothing” in honor of all the frustrated Missed Connection posters out there who remind us how important it is to live in the present moment, take some chances and “say something, say something… anything!” (Well… that and I’m a total Liz Phair fanboy, but you get the picture!!)
